Our History

Holywood - 13

Holywood Baptist Church was first founded in 1964 and initially met in the Community Centre on Jacksons Road. In the early 1970's it relocated to premises on High Street beside "Jonny the Jig".  When the church outgrew this location it moved again to its current site and into a building which had served as a freezer centre and then a kitchen centre and which was adapted to facilitate the needs of the church.

In 2005, due to declining numbers, the decision was taken to amalgamate with Strandtown Baptist Church in East Belfast, with a view to re-establishing the Baptist Church in Holywood at a future date.

A group of people from the combined churches recommenced Sunday services in Holywood in the summer of 2007 and in the spring of 2009 Holywood Baptist Church was formally re-constituted. It quickly became clear that the existing building was inadequate to accommodate the growing congregation. Services moved temporarily to the nearby Queen’s Hall and it was decided to replace the old building with a purpose built one on the same site. Work began in 2010 and the first service was held on Christmas Day 2011.

The real story and, indeed, the whole purpose of our church has nothing to do with buildings but is rather to bring glory to God, to help people grow their Christian faith and to reach out in God’s love to those in Holywood and beyond.

About Us

IMG 7488

We are a group of followers of Jesus from Holywood and the surrounding area. Our church family consists of people from a wide range of ages and backgrounds. We want to bring glory to God, to help one another grow in our Christian faith, to reach out in God’s love to those in Holywood and beyond and ultimately to see many from all backgrounds become fully devoted followers of Jesus.

Our main service takes place at 10.30 each Sunday morning and everyone is warmly invited to join with us. We seek to worship God in a manner which is both contemporary and reverent and place great importance on clear Biblical teaching.

Children are very welcome in all our services, and crèche facilities are available for babies and toddlers. Pre-school and primary school children join us for the first part of the service before leaving for Junior Church.

Prayer ministry is available at the end of each service, as well as an opportunity to meet informally over a cup of tea or coffee.

Information about all the activities of the church can be found elsewhere on the website along with contact details if you would like to get in touch with us. We would love to welcome you!
